Must-Do #1: Visit the Farms, Orchards, and Winery

It’s no secret that we’re all about our farms, orchards, and winery! This is a wonderful way to start your day of relaxation in Smithsburg. Take in local produce and veggies and chat with the farmers and families who put all the work into growing the wonderful food we enjoy! Be sure to check out Ivy Hill Farm for their famous unpasteurized apple cider and seasonal apple products. If you’re still in the farming mood, go ahead and explore Red Heifer Winery and Lewis’ Orchard—these two places are sure to give you more than enough of our local experience! There are even more to explore and we highly encourage you to find your favorite farm or orchard.


Must-Do #2: Antiquing & Treasure Hunting

There is so much history here in Smithsburg, Maryland and we welcome you to explore our amazing shopping options for antiques to take a piece of it home with you. We suggest starting with a fun store called The Appalachian Trading Post. It truly is one-of-a-kind and offers unique gifts, home decor, artisanal knives, and Native American-inspired wares! Another great antique store to check out during your visit is Salvage Through Time. Here you can truly find relics from the past and scratch that antiquing itch you’ve had for a while. Must-Do #3: The Farmer’s Market

We mentioned our farms earlier; however, It all really comes together during our awesome Farmer’s Market—held every 4th Monday of the month, May through October! All of the local farmers and vendors offer easy access to their organic produce and veggies (plus TONS of other locally-made products). You won’t leave this market empty handed or without a free sample (or three!). You definitely want to put this on your itinerary or make a special note to visit on the 4th Monday of the month. We know the vendors cannot wait to connect you with some locally sourced food!


Must-Do #4: The Creamery

What’s a day out without ice cream? If you’re with us on that thought then the award-winning ice cream from Misty Meadow Creamery is a must. With nearly two dozen flavors, including tasty toppings and even some options for our dairy-free friends, there’s an endless amount of choices. Between the quintessential farm country views, the relaxing patio and fun playground for the kiddos, it’s sure to bring a smile to your face! #5: The annual Carnival

Get together for a really fun night out at the annual Fireman’s Carnival, hosted by none other than the local Smithsburg Community Volunteer Fire Department! You are sure to feel like a kid again as you take in the sights, sounds, and excitement that this carnival brings to our town. Taste amazing fried local creations, classic carnival rides, music, and of course those addicting carnival games! Yes, there’s a coin toss—so make sure to bring some dimes! Explore our town, go for a hike, or visit a farm during the day and then catch the carnival in the evening…just make sure it’s carnival season first.
